    Who Are You At Neutone?

Hi! I’m Justin, one of the team members here at Neutone. I did physics and philosophy in school and moved out to the Bay to become an ML Researcher. I’ve since transitioned to more Ops type work and have taken up the mantle of some of the non-technical work happening here. In addition, I also play piano, DJ (all vinyl right now) and aspire to run my own record shop/listening bar 🙂

    What Do You Work On?

Right now I’m mostly focused on Marketing, PR, HR and Project Management. We are in the middle of our Public Beta and one of my tasks is to build and foster a community between creatives and Neutone. We want to always have artists top of mind! Eventually, I’ll help this place grow so we can continue to build cool things.

    Why Are You Doing This?

So I’ve been working in AI for the past 7-8 years. I’ve had a personal interest in what AI could look like and was always fascinated with trying to help others with this amazing technology. Yet I’ve never been able to blend my passion for AI with my love for music until Neutone. I was fortunate enough to meet Nao, our founder, while working at OpenAI and knew immediately that this was the thing I wanted to spend my time on.

I’m humbled to be able to work at the intersection of my two main interests in life.

What do you hope Neutone Morpho offers artists/musicians?

I think for me, what I’m most excited about with Morpho and Neutone in general is creating new sounds/sonics that have never existed, possibly never imagined. Because the models are so powerful, and will only continue to improve, the subtleties of your morphed input is truly astonishing and makes for interesting compositions. Really, I hope creatives will explore all the possibilities and just get lost in the creative process.

    What’s next in store?!

Next up would be our launch! We have some exciting things in the works and plan to broaden our collaboration with fellow artists over the rest of 2024.

For me personally, I’m hoping to continue do good work here with this amazing team, travel the world a bit more and really make some headwind on opening that record store!

What are you listening to these days? 🎧

This is a tough question for me to answer haha. I’ve been cataloguing all of my listening every day for ~450 days now and have just been exploring all types of genres. As of this moment, it’s been a lot of Horo Records, which was the Italian jazz label from the 70s that dissolved. Essentially they put out work that American labels wouldn’t for some high profile musicians and gave them total creative freedom.

I’m a huge rock fan, so some newer bands like Ovlov and Teenage Wrist plus some psychedelia.

Also always listening to hip hop, right now JPEGMAFIA is in heavy rotation due to his production, Knxwledge and of course, the goat, Madlib.
